Christmas at the Galt House Hotel Named One of North America’s Top 100 Events for Second Year

For the second year in a row, Christmas at the Galt House Hotel has earned the elite designation by the American Bus Association (ABA) as being a Top 100 Event in North American for 2013. An experienced expert tourism industry selection committee evaluated hundreds of nominated events, and selected events that offer excellent entertainment value to both tour groups and individual travelers from around the world. This ranking, along with the same designation for 2012, puts Christmas at the Galt House Hotel and Louisville, on the national platform as tour and event planners choose where to bring their groups.

“The attractiveness of Christmas at the Galt House Hotel as a don’t-miss entertainment value is only part of why its selection this year is such a distinction for Louisville, Kentucky,” said Peter J. Pantuso, CTIS, ABA’s president and CEO. “The real news here is that Christmas at the Galt House Hotel has been recognized as a potential magnet for tourism dollars, at a time when re-energizing domestic tourism is so important to our spirit and our economy. The honor gives Louisville an important boost in visibility among professional tour planners.”

According to studies completed by researchers at The George Washington University and Dunham and Associates, one overnight visit by a motorcoach group can generate between $5,000 to more than $11,000 in a local destination’s economy. Those dollars are spent on lodging, meals, admissions, fees, shopping, souvenirs, services and local taxes.

“Motorcoach groups spend more and stay longer,” Pantuso said. “That’s why Christmas at the Galt House Hotel is truly a local economic asset. There is no better way to jump-start tourism than to attract motorcoach groups to a great event and convince them to extend their stay.”

The American Bus Association represents some 1,000 motorcoach and tour companies throughout the United States and Canada, and the Top 100 Events list is a sought-after resource for travel professionals, motorcoach operators and the general public. The Top 100 Events list is published as a supplement to the September/October issue of Destinations magazine and on the ABA’s website.

Christmas at the Galt House Hotel is a holiday event so spectacular it was featured on the Travel Channel’s “Christmas Crazy” special. The KaLightoscope Attraction, featuring larger-than-life luminaries is a perennial favorite among guests. In 2012, Christmas at the Galt House Hotel packs even more holiday spirit! This year, there’s a new Peppermint Express Kiddie Train Ride through the Candy Cane Forest. Inside, children will be greeted by Mr. Sugar Pine, the talking tree. They’ll also watch as nearly 100 new animated animals work to get ready for a holiday party in the forest.

Christmas at the Galt House Hotel runs from November 17, 2012 to January 2, 2013. Tickets are a great value with a FREE Child’s Ticket per purchase of an $18.99 Adult KaLightoscope Ticket. The event helps raise money for the charity Blessings in a Backpack, a unique program designed to feed elementary school children on weekends through the school year.
