NCAA Competition Returns to Louisville

This week, Louisville hosts the 2012 NCAA Division II Spring Championships Festival. The event will bring more than 1,000 student-athletes to town to compete for six national championship titles.

Student-athletes enjoy some downtown in the lounge. They can watch tv, play Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution, ping-pong, pool and much more.

The NCAA, Bellarmine University and the Louisville Sports Commission are hosting the event May 15-19.

The NCAA says the DII Spring Championships Festival includes opening and closing ceremonies, community engagement projects, social opportunities for the student-athletes, a fan festival and an athlete-village type atmosphere.

Students will compete for titles in men’s and women’s golf, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s tennis and softball.  All events are open to the public.  All-session tickets allow entrance to all sports during the week, and are $15 for adults, $10 for Students/Seniors.  Single day adult tickets are $5, Student/Senior tickets are $3.  All tickets can be purchased at the venue.

Louisville also hosted the last DII Championships Festival, in Fall 2010.  The six titles up for grabs in the DII Spring Championships Festival bring the total number of National Championship events hosted by Louisville in 2012 to nine!
