Night of… One Race, One Winner, One Party Will Be Packed with Celebrity Jockeys
It’s the party that raises money for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund, and dozens of top jockeys will be at the Galt House Hotel Derby Night to show their support. Last year, the Kentucky Derby-winning jockey, John Valazquez, winning trainer Graham Motion, and winning owner Team Valor International, along with 40 jockeys attended the party, which raised $60,000 for PDJF.
This year, Velazquez is expected to return to the Night of… Party, along with Hall of Fame jockeys Pat Day, Jean Cruguet and Ron Turcotte. Favorites Mike Smith, Julien Leparoux, Javier Castellano, Garrett Gomez, Ramon Dominguez, Rafael Bejarano and Joel Rosario are also expected to attend the event.
Cruguet is celebrating the 35th anniversary of his historic Kentucky Derby victory aboard Seattle Slew, which led to the Triple Crown. He’ll serve as a Celebrity Handicapper at Churchill Downs. Seattle Slew is the only undefeated Triple Crown winner.
Galt House Hotel hopes to raise $100,000 for PDJF this year. Part of the ticket price goes to PDJF, as does the money raised in an auction. Included in the auction is a guitar autographed by country music superstar Toby Keith, as well as a signed Red Solo Cup. Party-goers will also have the chance to bid on one-of-a-kind Kentucky Derby Memorabilia. PDJF provides financial assistance to some 60 former jockeys who have suffered catastrophic on-track injuries.
