Galt House Hotel is Center for Kentucky Derby Festival Kickoff

It may sound crazy, but the Kentucky Derby Festival is just around the corner—as in next week.  It all starts with the “They’re Off! Luncheon” on Friday, April 20.  ESPN reporter Erin Andrews, who is also a correspondent for ABC’s Good Morning America, is the keynote speaker for the 56th annual luncheon.  It begins at 11:30 in the Galt House Hotel’s Grand Ballroom.

Later that night is the Fillies Derby Ball, also held in the Galt House Hotel’s Grand Ballroom.  It’s one of the Kentucky Derby Festival’s oldest and most anticipated events.  The highlight is the coronation of the Derby Festival Queen, who will be selected by the traditional spin-of-the-wheel.  Cocktails begin at 7 p.m., and dinner is at 8:30 p.m.

Thunder in the Conservatory at Galt House Hotel offers a prime viewing location.

Then, on Saturday, April 21, Thunder Over Louisville officially kicks off the Kentucky Derby Festival.  The FoodFest and Thunder on the Ground Activities start at 11 a.m., the Air Show begins at 3 p.m. and Fireworks start at 9:30 p.m.  The Thunder Over Louisville Command Center is at the Galt House Hotel, which has a front row seat for all the action.  You’ll find an amazing view from Thunder in the Conservatory.  The event is one of the best bangs for your buck along the Waterfront.  Your $125 ticket includes parking, a BBQ buffet, a wristband to enter and exit Galt House Hotel, and access to the facilities.  There are also a few guest rooms still remaining at Galt House Hotel.  A special “Friday Night Penny Night” promotion is available with a Saturday night reservation.  For information about Thunder in the Conservatory, or to book a room for Thunder Over Louisville, click here, or call 502-589-5200.
